Finlandia Foundation - Baltimore Area Chapter
Finlandia Foundation Baltimore Area Chapter aims to promote Finnish
culture and heritage in the greater Baltimore area. We are a non-profit organization without political affiliations, open to all Finns and people with ties to
Finland. Members enjoy a diverse and a delicious offering of events and cultural activities. Our goal is to offer a variety of events so that everyone finds something to enjoy.
Fun events throughout the year have included:
Our largest event is the Pikkujoulu (Little Christmas Party) , which ushers in the holiday season in early December with traditional Finnish Christmas foods, singing of carols and a visit by Joulupukki.
In February we find creative ways to celebrate Laskiainen, as the Baltimore weather rarely offers a day of sledding.
In the spring, Vappu (May 1st) may be heralded with a wine tasting or a day of family games.
Juhannus (Midsummer) is a time when many of our members travel to Finland, but a summer get-together is often held later in the summer in the form of a beach party or a crab feast.
Ad-hoc events such as a night at the symphony or a movie night round out our annual get-togethers.
In addition to our own functions, our members receive an invitation to the Embassy of Finland's Independence Day reception, as well as to other Finnish and Scandinavian functions in the greater Baltimore-Washington DC area.
